Spiny Orb Weaver. Note the tufts of silk on the web. |
This young lady has been hanging out near my vegetable pots. I let her stay because she eats flies and mosquitoes but her web is always in the way of things. Right now she's attached to the frangipani, having had to relocate due to a downpour; two days ago she was completely blocking my Serrano pepper plant and I had to contort myself to get around the web to pick a pepper.
Read about the "spinybacked orb weaver" at the
University of Florida entomology and nematology website.
